  5. OSI-X.400 WORKING GROUP SUMMARY OF THE MEETING MAY 1, 1990

  7. The meeting was convened by chairman Rob Hagens.
  8.  
  9. Allan Cargille (U Wisc.)  briefly described the Experimental X.400
  10. project at the University of Wisconsin.  He then fielded detailed
  11. questions about the operation of the PRMD, the address structure used,
  12. etc.
  13.  
  14. Robert Hagens described a proposal that the University of Wisconsin has
  15. submitted entitled ``X.400 Introduction, Support, and Planning in the
  16. Internet''.  This proposal has four categories.  One of these categories
  17. includes support for 2 people to work on planning the strategy and
  18. operation of an Internet PRMD. The resultant plan, developed with the
  19. guidance of the X.400 Working Group, may then be adopted by the Internet
  20. community.

  22. At the February 1990 meeting, the WG determined that a document
  23. (tentatively titled ``Transition and long term strategy for operation of
  24. X.400/MHS in the NREN'' ought to be written.  The funding that the
  25. University of Wisconsin seeks will provide support for 2 people to work
  26. on such a document.

  28. Robert Hagens then described his work on use of the Domain Name System
  29. to support the storage of RFC 987/1138 address mapping tables.  Use of
  30. the DNS would eliminate the need for static tables at most Internet
  31. gateway sites.

  33. The DNS 987/1138 work will be described by an Internet Draft, to be
  34. published shortly.
